Techno DJ and House DJ for Hire — Melodic Techno & Afro House
DJ Kim is a London-based techno DJ and house DJ who plays two sounds: warm afro house and driving melodic techno. She opens with percussion and groove, then builds towards peak time, choosing every record live off the floor. Book her for club nights, private parties, brand events and wedding after-parties, anywhere in the world.

What a techno and house DJ brings to the night
Afro house: the warm start
Afro house grew out of South Africa in the 1990s, blending house with kwaito and local rhythms. Rolling percussion, deep basslines and vocals make it inviting rather than intense, which is why Kim uses it at sunset and early in the night while a room is still arriving.
Melodic techno: the peak
Melodic techno keeps techno's hypnotic drive but adds long builds, layered synths and a cinematic, often darker mood. Sitting around 120–128 BPM, it carries a floor through peak time without tipping into the harder, faster end of techno. This is where Kim's nights land.
One journey, read live
Nothing is pre-planned. Kim moves from afro house into melodic techno as the floor tells her to, holding a groove longer or lifting earlier. It is why promoters can book her again and never hear the same set twice, and why the same approach works outside clubs.
02 — WHERE IT FITS
A techno DJ and house music DJ for more than club nights
Club nights
Guest and headline slots of 60–120 minutes, from warm-up to peak time, with a signed-off rider built around Pioneer CDJ-3000s and a DJM-A9. Full detail on formats and rooms is on the club page.
Club bookings →Villa, yacht and private parties
A house DJ for hire for milestone birthdays, villa weekends and yacht parties: afro house as guests arrive, melodic techno once the dance floor fills. It needs a proper sound system rather than a background speaker.
Private events →Brand, fashion and corporate events
Runway, launch and campaign sets shaped to a brief, with original scoring and custom edits where needed. Afro house suits receptions and networking; melodic techno suits a reveal or the after-party.
Corporate events →03 — THE TWO SOUNDS
Her two sounds, side by side
Knowing when each sound should play is the easiest way to brief a DJ. Here is how the two genres differ in general terms, and where each tends to sit in an evening.
| Aspect | Afro house | Melodic techno |
|---|---|---|
| Roots | South Africa, 1990s; house blended with kwaito and local styles | Europe, late 2000s to early 2010s; techno with a melodic focus |
| Tempo feel | Usually slower, rolling and percussive (commonly under 122 BPM) | Steady and driving, typically 120–128 BPM |
| Mood | Warm, groove-led, often with vocals and live-sounding instruments | Hypnotic, cinematic, often minor-key and introspective |
| Best moment in the night | Sunset, arrivals, early dance floor | Peak time, late night, after-parties |
| Suits | Receptions, terraces, pool and yacht parties | Club rooms, dark dance floors, big systems |
Genre descriptions are general. In a live set the two blend, and the room decides the switch point on the night.

04 — QUESTIONS
Booking Questions
ANSWERED PLAINLYWhat is the difference between techno and house?
House grew out of Chicago in the early 1980s: a four-on-the-floor beat with a warm, groove-led and often soulful feel. Techno took shape in Detroit in the mid-1980s and is more machine-driven and hypnotic, commonly 120–150 BPM. DJ Kim plays two branches of that family: afro house at sunset and melodic techno at peak time.
Can a techno DJ play a wedding or corporate event?
Yes, if the slot suits the sound. Kim plays wedding after-parties, the late dance floor once the formal part is over, and brand or corporate events built to a brief. Couples wanting Bollywood or sangeet music pair her with a separate wedding DJ for the earlier programme.
Does DJ Kim play hard techno or tech house?
No. Her sets are melodic techno and afro house only, moving from warm afro house to driving melodic techno as the night builds. If you need hard techno, tech house or open-format requests, she is not the right booking, and she will tell you so when you enquire.
How long is a techno or house DJ set?
Club sets usually run 60–120 minutes and festival sets 60–90 minutes. Longer sets for private or brand events can be agreed in advance, which gives more room to move from afro house into melodic techno without rushing the build.
Where can I hear her before booking?
Recorded mixes and filmed sets, including a yacht party and a set at Raeeth in Goa, are on the Live Sets page. They show how a night moves from afro house into melodic techno, which is the best guide to what she will play for you.
