Afro house took shape in South Africa in the 1990s, when producers fused house with kwaito, deep house and local rhythms. Its engine is layered, rolling percussion under a deep bassline, often with piano, saxophone or vocals in African languages. Tempos commonly sit between 80 and 122 BPM.
Why it suits a sunset
Afro house offers groove before intensity. The percussion invites people to move without demanding a full dance floor, and the vocals and warm instrumentation sit naturally outdoors. That is why Kim plays it as the light goes: on terraces, rooftops and decks while a crowd is still arriving.
The build into melodic techno
As the floor fills, darker melodies and a steadier kick take over and the set moves into melodic techno. The switch is never timed in advance. Kim reads the room and chooses each record live, which is why promoters can book her again and never hear the same set twice.

Beach clubs, rooftops and yacht sunsets
